Write Like a Mother Retreat

A huge thank you to the mothers from over 20 states who joined us in-person and online, Coco Northeast for hosting our Minneapolis retreat, and the National Endowment for the Arts whose funding allowed us to offer the virtual retreat to Maryland mother writers free of charge, and to Sara Brenny who worked diligently behind the scenes. Facilitators Sun Yung Shin, Dara Beevas, Kate Hopper, and co-founder Rachel Berg Scherer grounded the assembled mothers in two days of wonder and possibility through presentations, including a somatic and yoga experience, writing prompts, a ‘literary’ visit to the Minneapolis Institute of Art, and magical connections made with mother-writers from across the country. It finished with a sweet trip to Paisley Park for those who wanted to end the retreat in a purple swirl of Prince music and genius.

CityLit Studio IX

CityLit Studio Writers on Craft, Creativity, and Community, presented as a part of Free Fall Baltimore, was a unique opportunity for writers to learn from three publishing industry professional creatives KRISHAN TROTMAN (Vice President and publisher of Legacy Lit, an imprint at Hachette Book Group NY), YAHDON ISRAEL (Senior editor at Simon Schuster and founder of Literaryswag), and independent developmental editor, author, and former senior-level magazine editor DAWN RAFFEL. This year’s studio was held on October 13 at the Lyric Baltimore. CityLit gives a HUGE THANK YOU to Lyric Baltimore, especially DENISE GANTT, EBONY EVANS, and MAYA JAMES.

If you missed this CityLit Studio session, you can catch it on our YouTube channel. You will find that the session is packed with valuable insights on editing, marketing, and publishing for writers at any stage to elevate your work.

Black Artist Fair at Coppin State University

We were honored to have a table at November’s Black Artist Fair, hosted by the Black Arts District. It was a great opportunity for CityLit Project to connect with so many new faces, share our mission, and learn more about the work of those who attended. Thank you to the Black Arts District for the invitation and your continued support of Baltimore artists!
